Description
Cobalt oxide (Co3O4) produces intense, reliable blues at almost any temperature. It is very powerful: as little as 0.25–1% gives a strong blue, so weigh it carefully. Combine with iron, manganese or rutile for more subtle blue-greys and blacks.
Common uses
- Glaze colourant, typically 0.25–1%
- Blue underglaze painting and brushwork
- Colouring slips and engobes
